Good to have you guys back in Gatineau! Last time was in 2004 if im not mistaken. Do you remember that time?
Ya that was one of the best shows Ive ever played. Gatineau always rules.

What are you expecting from this year edition of Heartfest?
I’m just hoping everyone comes and has a good and safe time. It’ll be really cool to play with so many friends in different bands in one room. That’s why I always love playing festivals, you get to hangout and play music with your friends.

Which hardcore and non-hardcore bands are Liferuiner influenced by?
I think everyone in my bands musical spectrum is so wide with different styles of music I don’t think I could name just 2. Right now I’m jamming the new Sigur Ros pretty hard and also Code Orange Kids.

How is the Canadian hardcore scene compared to the American hardcore scene?
I think in many ways the scenes are incredibly similar as far as the cliqueyness goes. But I like the scene better in Canada because the scenes are so spread apart, so every scene is different, it;s sorta cool. America is cool too but I guess being Canadian I’ll always hold it down for home. In Gatineau/Ottawa we are trying to keep our shows as intense as we can without having to resort to excessive violence. We are trying to keep a certain level of control on what we’re doing, even with all the intensity.

How can you explain excessive violence and fights at shows in a scene where unity and brotherhood are promoted?
I hate fighting over stupid bullshit that happens at shows, like over moshing or stupid drama. I know hardcore is a contact sport but I appreciate the mutual respect that most people have for each other at shows.

What’s up with the new Liferuiner? You guys released ‘’Sons Of Straight Edge’’ earlier this year, it sounds like a brand new band. Tell us more about it, what happened?
I feel like the sound of Liferuiner just progressed to something we all actually enjoy and progressed with us as people. I love all our new stuff and I’m super excited to release the brand new stuff we’ve been working on.

What is the current vibe arround TO/GTA hardcore right now?
I love Toronto and I love the hardcore scene here. Everyone knows each other and its cool to hangout in a room full of your friends.

Are you bummed that Upift is not on this year?
I love James Donaldson

What is coming up for Liferuiner? Any projects or surprises you want to share with us?
We’re in the middle of recording a brand new full length which will be released in the Fall

Will it be your first time in Gatineau/Ottawa? If not how were the last shows you did in here?

Our first time in Gatineau (I think), but not out first time in Ottawa. We played here a few years ago with The Ghost Inside, and it was really fun. We have been extremely lucky to tour Canada a number of times, and it’s something we look forward to every year. I guess I should mention that we’re in the process of booking some stuff for the summer, so expect a Quebec, Montreal, Toronto show from us in July!

What are you expecting from this year at Heartfest?

Big riffs, big pits, good friends, good times. That’s all that really matters. Banging our heads until our backs hurt.

Which hardcore and non-hardcore bands are Reign Sup influenced by?

We started off as sort of a Hatebreed/Madball/Figure Four hybrid that was really into the metallic hardcore thing, but we’ve progressed our sound somewhat into something that’s sort of uniquely ours. Without getting too pretentious, I think our new stuff sounds like a mixture of styles, heavily influenced by Converge, Disfear, Bastard, Advent, Neurosis, Machinehead, Sepultura, Entombed, Mastodon, Ringworm, Integrity, and with some melodic experimental stuff sort of in the Isis/Deftones/Explosions in the Sky like.

How is the American hardcore scene compared to the Canadian hardcore scene?

That’s really tough for me to comment on, we haven’t been touring a lot, so I really have no point of reference on this. Traditionally, I will say that our shows in Canada have always been really awesome, and we are grateful for that.

Similarities?

We like the Flyers, you guys like a bunch of women in hockey gear!

In Gatineau/Ottawa we are trying to keep our shows as intense as we can without having to resort to excessive violence. We are trying to keep a certain level of control on what we’re doing, even with all the intensity. How can you explain excessive violence and fights at shows in a scene where unity and brotherhood are promoted?

I don’t fucking know! I don’t care about shit like that. If kids want to be idiots and fight over dumb shit like shit-talking and facebook posts, and this or that, then let them. ”There’s always gonna be somebody tougher no matter where you go”, right? Eventually they’ll get snuffed by somebody badder. Fighting and violence are stupid, but there’s nothing you can do; human beings are a cancer, and when you get a bunch together in a room, even in the context of unity and brotherhood, it can turn ugly.

Few months ago, you changed labels from Deathwish Inc. to Mediaskare. For the ones that missed that part of Reign Supreme story, how would you explain the transition using only one sentence?

CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME! (just kidding). It was time for us to change some things up, and the people who put out our records was one of them. That’s it. No drama, no nothing. We are all still friends, and I still love hanging out with Tre, and will always worship Converge.

Heartfest is a 100% benefit show, so all profits goes out to the Canadian Heart & Strokes Foundation. What do you think about doing a somewhat big event like this and not making any money out of it? What do you think of benefit shows, it there too many out there recently?

I love the idea of doing a benefit show. It goes to show that there is still some meaning in what we do, that it is possible to change the world with our music and community. I don’t really care about the money as long as we don’t lose money on it, you know that. I think the heavy music world would be better off if more people were doing things for benefit purposes.

For a certain period, you guys were often on tour with metal/metalcore bands. Did you felt like the ‘’black sheep’’ at these shows? Did you made any new friends along the way? Would you guys tour again with bands like The Ghost inside & Betrayal?

I think we fit in pretty well on those tours, and we’d do it again. I don’t really philosophize about stuff like this, I just worry about writing heavy music and having fun with my friends.

Flyers, Eagles or Phillies? Why?

Flyers because of Dan Carcillo’s mustache (yes I know he’s not on the Flyers anymore, but still).

What is coming up for Reign Supreme? Any projects or surprises you want to share with us?

We are putting out a new record on Mediaskare this summer, and we’ve already begun writing a new LP which we’ll start recording next year!

We regrettably announce that 100 Demons has had to drop off the bill due to some passport issues, we have found a replacement headliner however. Headlining Day 2, already confirmed, is the almighty Earth Crisis.

The Beautiful Ones also unfortunately had to drop their Day 2 spot and have been replaced by Hollow Earth (Panic Records).

Lastly, Havenside won’t be able to join us on Day 3 and Kitchener, Ontario favourites Exalt will be taking their place.

We will shortly announce a replacement for War Hound who are also not able to make it to the fest, for reasons which they have made very evident on their Kickstarter.

We are really sorry for all these late changes. We truly hope you are still interested in supporting and coming out to this years Heart Fest. We would also like to thanks Wolfe Bailey for his huge help with the fest and with finding a headliner to take 100 Demons spot.

Prices are :
$30 for the ”3-days pass”
20$ for a ”Day 2 ticket”.

We only have 300 ”3 day passes” between all local stores, it is a definite possibility that we will sell out of the local passes so get it fast. Each selling point will also have 50 ”day 2 tickets”.

There’s no single day tickets for day 1 and day 3. The venues for day 1 and 3 have a capacity of 600, while the venue for day 2 has a capacity of 1500, so make sure to get your weekend pass soon if you plan on going to day 1 or 3. It’s only $30, so if you go to 2 days, you are still winning over paying for 2 days separately. That’s how we roll.

Three day passes for Heart Fest 666 will be going on sale on March 1st at 9:00am.

Due to logistic reasons, we are asking everyone from the Ottawa/Gatineau area to buy tickets from the local points of sale, you can get your tickets at the following places:

Vertigo Records: 193 Rideau Street, Ottawa.
Studio Dermink: 425 Boulevard La Vérendrye, Gatineau.
Disto Shop: 3 Rue Dalpée, Gatineau.
En Équilibre: 140 Boulevard Gréber, Gatineau.

If the show hasn’t sold out after two weeks, some bands will be able to sell tickets themselves, but, seeing as we only have 300 passes between all locations, it is a definite possibility that we will sell out of the local tickets.

For those unable to purchase tickets in person, 300 more tickets will be made available online on March 1st at 9:00am on www.thesalepoint.com and www.lepointdevente.com. If there are lots of tickets left over locally we may be able to make some adjustments to where the tickets have been allocated.

Hi everyone, its obvious not every person will be able to stay for the whole weekend, unfortunately, but here is more or less how the weekend will be laid out, and excuse our terminology:

Salut tout le monde, nous savons que certaines personnes ne pourront malheureusement pas rester pour tout le ”week-end”, donc voici comment le festival se déroulera, afin que vous puissez planifier votre horaire en conséquences. Désolé pour notre généralisation au niveau des genres de musique:

Friday/Vendredi: Pop Punk and Punk
Saturday/Samedi: Hardcore
Sunday/Dimanche: Metalcore and Hardcore
